Crèche
We believe that, as a Christian family, we have a responsibility to teach our children and young people by feeding their spiritual, moral and social needs. This begins in the Crèche.
Who is it for?
The Crèche is for children of pre-school age.
Where and when is it held?
The Crèche is available each Sunday, except on Family Sundays, during the 10 o’clock Mass. You will find us in the Small Hall in the Centre (next door to the Sunday School).
What do we do?
We would encourage you to leave your child in our care, if at all possible, and return to the church to worship. We welcome babies, but ask that you remain with them at all times.
As a Crèche in a place of worship we try to maintain a calm environment and to offer a gentle introduction to spiritual instruction through stories linked to the day’s scripture.
Children are welcome to draw, do jigsaws, look at books (or be read to) and play with the toys quietly. At about 10.30am the children are encouraged to listen to a story that will follow the day’s scripture to enable us to all learn together. This is followed by a simple craft activity linked to the story. The children will often work together to produce a poster or banner: look out for our work displayed in the church or during Children’s Mass. Sometimes we use drama, singing and musical instruments to enrich our children’s experience in the Crèche.
If your child becomes distressed they will be brought to you by a Crèche volunteer.
Who will be looking after my child?
The Crèche is staffed entirely by volunteers from the congregation. There are always three volunteers present.
What is expected of me as a parent/carer?
We ask that all parents/carers please:
• take your child to the toilet before bringing them to Crèche
• bring your own child to Crèche, and collect them just before Communion (Children must not enter or leave the Crèche at any time unless accompanied by their parent/carer or a Crèche volunteer.)
• register your child on each visit
• leave your child in our care, if at all possible
• assist the volunteers if you do stay in the Crèche (eg helping other children with certain activities, listening to the bible story along with the children, etc as directed by the Crèche Leader)
• consider becoming a Crèche volunteer or join us in preparing craft activities.
